I work out of my car and needed a reliable desk, and this tray has been perfect! It fits my 2015 VW Jetta’s steering wheel seamlessly. Just a heads-up—you’ll want to rotate the wheel to its upside-down position before sliding the tray in from below to secure it properly.
Recently, I had to take my dog to the emergency vet after her cancer returned. Due to COVID restrictions, I had to wait in my car while they ran tests. Having this tray made a huge difference—I set up my iPad on it and was able to stay as comfortable as possible during the wait. I’m so grateful I had it with me. Looking forward to using it more once I’m back on the road for work!
This tray is such a handy little gadget! Perfect for lunch breaks, watching videos on a phone or tablet while waiting, working on a laptop, camping, or traveling. I keep mine tucked away in the mesh pocket behind the passenger seat—it fits perfectly, stays out of the way, and doesn’t make any noise while driving.
A quick tip: flipping the steering wheel upside down (at least in my car) works best. It prevents scuffing the hard plastic in the middle of the wheel and avoids any accidental horn honking (yep, learned that the hard way, LOL). It does shift slightly if the wheel moves, but as long as you don’t grab the wheel while using it, you’re good to go.
It’s super sturdy, but because of how it hangs, it’s not meant for heavy loads. It easily supports my 17” laptop, but I wouldn’t lean on it like a desk. I’ve also used it as a tray in the back of the car and even for camping when I needed a flat surface for drinks. Fun hack: we turned it into a floating tray at the pool by adding sliced pool noodles around the edges—it worked great for holding drinks! Overall, such a versatile and useful tool.
